Higher Education

At WWEA Post-16, we begin the process of preparing and applying for Higher Education right from the very beginning of Year 12.

We get all students actively engaged with a whole host of activities which are aimed at helping them decide what they want to do following their time with us. Whether this be apprenticeships or University, we ensure they know everything they need to know about all the different options available.

For example, all Year 12 students go to the annual UCAS conference, giving them a chance to talk to people from hundreds of different universities. We also set aside a whole UCAS day for Year 12 students to get a head start on their applications, with many of our students finishing their applications way in advance in October of Year 13.

We also arrange for visits to individual universities and special visits for specific subjects, like last Year's visit to a Psychology lecture at Nottingham Trent University.

Year 12 students also get the chance to go on a residential visit to Aberystwyth University. They stay for a couple of days, experiencing University life from lectures to living in their dormitories.

Support doesn't stop in Year 12, every form period in Year 13 students spend time finishing their UCAS applications and personal statements. Each of their form tutors personally examines their personal statements with each and every one of them checked by our resident UCAS expert before being sent off with their application.

All students recieve advice on Student Finance, including presentations delivered by experts from SFE (Student Finance England).

Plus, we make all students aware that University isn't the only way. There are opportunities for students to take on work experience placements to give them an idea of what an apprenticeship may be like. Also all students get to receive one-to-one career advice from our Connexions Advisor.
